This is the first time I've ever invested in a Powermat charging system before, so I went out and bought the case for the iPhone 4 and the Powermat charging station itself. All together, it cost around $130.00, give or take. The packaging is quite neat and convenient, it doesn't look like there's anything involved other than the required space to keep the devices snugly in place.
Setup of the Powermat station itself is easy enough: Plug the AC adapter into the charging mat and then into the wall. You're given three spots on the mat with which to charge various devices.
Slipping the case on the iPhone 4 is equally simple: You slide the iPhone in through the top of the case, and once it's locked into the bottom, you fold the top over the top of the iPhone, and that locks it in place.
The downside is that that's where the ease ends. Trying to get the case on the phone to mesh up with the spot on the mat to get it charging ends up turning into a hunt for some sort of sweet spot.
Yes, the mat has three spots that are marked. Yes, there's a logo on the back of the case that could conceivably be used for matching up case A to mat B, but in the end, it's not as easy in practice as it is in theory.
Once it does get lined up, though, it works like a charm.
In the end, I think I'll be taking the Powermat system back for a refund and just get an official dock for the desk and the bedroom. Cheaper and prolly more convenient.
