The premise for this product was a good idea....who dosent tire of trying to keep up with the charging cords, not to mention finding outlets for all the gadgets that require charging these day? The makers of the Powermat say they can free you from all of that. The outside of the box shows the Powermat with a blackberry, a DS and a cell phone sitting on top of it. It states you can charge up to 3 items on the Powermate, freeing your outlets, clearing the clutter of tangled cords.
Opening the box you will find the Charging mate as pictured, a power cord that plugs into the wall, 7 adapter tips that they explain you can use for your older electronic devices that may not be compatable with the Mat. (I thought that was nice to include those) a seperate magnetic square disk that these different tips have to be plugged into and then the disk is set on the powermate to charge your items.
The directions are simple It says that you will fill a small magnetic pull when the items are placed on the mat correctly along with a beep. I do this.....I set my ds, my cell phone and blackberry on this grid just like it is pictured on the box......nothing. Reading further, it states that some items might require the included adapter tips to use with the Powermate Whoa! what? I go back to the box check the picture again, it does not show any adapter attached to the pictured items, It shows the items sitting on top of the mat.
This is where the deception....and yes rip-off comes in...you will need a seperate one of these small magnetic power disks cords for each item you want to charge. That is really what those tips are for, you never place the actual items on the grid as is pictured! just the magnetic power disk. Extra disk sell here for 29.00, (they spot you one). Once plugged in you still have the clutter of power disk cords, and your items cannot be placed on the mat as shown, they have to go on the table, because the magnetic disk have to go on the mat to generate the charge and does that not take you right back to what you were trying to get away from in the first place? Uhgh! You could easily exceed $140 or more using this thing in its present form. Not worth it to me.
